Visit of the European Union Delegation to the University of Tripoli for the Erasmus+ Programme
On Wednesday, 9 July 2025, the University of Tripoli received a high-level delegation from the European Commission. The delegation was led by Ambassador Stefano Sannino, Director-General for the Middle East and North Africa, and included Mr. Nicola Orlando, EU Ambassador to Libya, and Mr. Martin Benedict, Director of International Cooperation at the mission.
They were welcomed by Professor Dr. Khalid Aoun, President of the University of Tripoli; Professor Dr. Radwan Hussein, Director of the Office of International Cooperation; and Dr. Jalal Darwish, representative of the Ministry of Higher Education, as well as officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The visit aimed to explore cooperation opportunities under the Erasmus+ programme, to expand inclusive education and STEM fields, and to present funded initiatives such as “MEDUSA” to enhance digital links among Mediterranean universities.
The programme began with a welcome meeting in the President’s office and continued with a panel discussion in the Rashid Kaabar Lecture Hall. Opening remarks were followed by discussions with deans and graduate students on improving scientific research, study opportunities in Europe, and strengthening academic partnerships with countries in the Southern Mediterranean and North Africa.
